Are you getting close to graduation?

Students graduating (completing ALL requirements) at the end of the winter 2020 semester

1) These students should be applying NOW for April graduation, even if grade changes or substitutions/waivers or capstone documents are not complete.  If you have capstone courses within your department, please have instructors announce this in their classes.  Every semester, we have students who indicate they "didn't know" they needed to apply for graduation or thought they had to wait until all grades/substitutions/waivers were submitted before they applied.

2) If students wish to have their name included in the commencement program, they MUST apply no later than March 15. Students who apply after this date will not have their name included in the commencement program.

3) If students do not make the March 15 deadline, they are still be eligible to obtain tickets for guests if they apply no later than March 31.

4) Students who apply for April graduation after April 14 are not guaranteed eligibility to obtain tickets. Eligibility will be based on the amount of tickets still available.

5) Under NO circumstances will students be able to apply for April graduation after April 27, 2020.

Students graduating (completing ALL requirements) at the end of the summer 2020 semester
1) These students may begin applying now for August graduation.  They should NOT apply for April graduation. This application does NOT make them eligible to participate in the April commencement ceremony (see next item).

2) If students wish to participate in the April commencement ceremony, they MUST submit a Request to Participate in April 2020 Commencement form found at https://www.emich.edu/registrar/documents/commencement-form.pdf?v=2020-01-09T20:26:34Z
Students must meet ALL requirements (credit hours, completion in summer semester, GPA) to receive conditional approval. Further, the form MUST be submitted no later than March 1. Students MUST also apply for August graduation by March 1 to receive full approval and be eligible to obtain tickets for the April ceremony.

As all students who apply to participate are checked to ensure they meet credit hour requirements, it is essential that graduate students have complete and up-to-date programs of study on file. If we do not have an accurate program of study, we cannot confirm eligibility and they will be denied.

Declaring your music or dance major

If your online transcript doesn't have your music or dance major correctly listed, your registration for courses could be affected. To fix this, please send me an e-mail asking for the correction. Be sure to include your EID# and the major you should have. I'll send a request to Records and I'll notify you when the change is made.

Graduation audit updates

At the beginning of your graduation semester, please contact the School of Music & Dance office to request a graduation audit update. Your record will be reviewed and a report with corrections will be sent to the Director of School of Music & Dance. Assuming the Director approves, he/she will send the report to Records to be processed.

Currently, we aren't allowed to request audit updates before the beginning of your last semester. As long as you have accounted for all of the courses you need, and you have approval for any substitutions, you are all set. Please direct specific questions or concerns to the School of Music & Dance office by e-mail:
