Learning Beyond the Classroom

Here are details about Learning Beyond the Classroom requirements for music majors:

The requirement is two GELB categories. Music majors meet GELB categories as indicated by taking required music classes. Music classes marked "L3" are used by the system to give GELB credit for the recital attendance requirement. Music education students meet two categories with ensembles and student teaching. Performance majors meet "L3" with an ensemble or music history course, but must choose a second category [https://catalog.emich.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=25&poid=11914]. Wind/String/Percussion principals may opt to take marching band (L1); Keyboard principals will need to choose a second category; Voice principals use one of the two required World Languages courses (French or German) to meet L5, but the course may not also count toward GEKH. For voice principals in MUSC, students may wish to take a world languages course (not applied toward GEKH). Note that students may always opt to complete another category instead. By the way, I've included the writing intensive (GEWI) requirement, too.
